X-ray measurement of the angles of cup anteversion and stem antetorsion of the hip joint prosthesis

Abstract


Background. The purpose of our work was to develop a method for X-ray measurement of prosthesis stem antetorsion and cup anteversion in patients after hip joint replacement. Materials and methods. The technique for X-ray measurement of stem antetorsion and cup anteversion after the hip replacement is developed. From November 2018 to November 2016, we evaluated endoprosthesis cup anteversion and stem antetorsion in 23 patients after hip joint replacement using X-ray method developed by us and compared the obtained indices with the data of computed tomography. Results. It was found that the mean value of antetorsion angle of endoprosthesis cup in the group accor-ding to the computed tomography data was 7.4 ± 1.9°, the angle of anteversion — 20.2 ± 6.1°. Similar values of antetorsion and anteversion angles, as it was shown during X-ray examination performed according to our methodology, were 5.2 ± 0.6° and 24.1 ± 6.2°, respectively. The comparative analysis of computed tomography and X-ray data between groups did not reveal statistically significant differences that confirms the reliability of the investigated method (p = 0.346 for stem antetorsion angle, p = 0.191 for cup anteversion angle). Conclusions. The method for determining the magnitude of the angles of endoprosthesis stem antetorsion and cup anteversion developed by us according to X-ray is not inferior to the accuracy of the same measurements by means of computed tomography.
