The results of the treatment of the patients with tibial nonunion by the rating scales results

Abstract


The authors analyzed the results of treatment of 32 patients with aseptic normotrophic tibial nonunion. The results are estimated as good. The volume of the treatment complex and the possible forecast of the results obtained were estimated using the Non-Union Scoring System — NUSS. On the parameters of this scale, predictors were chosen, which testify to the advantages of the method of external fixation of fragments by ring fixator. The results were estimated using the anatomical and functional scales of Luboszyce — Mattis — Schwarzberg and Karlstrom — Olerud. Comparative analysis of scales indicates their high identity. The estimated values were obtained. They were not fundamentally different. Unsatisfactory results occurred only in 3.1 % cases (one patient); good and excellent — in 65.6 % (21 patients). Taking into account the characteristics of the great bulk of victims who need (according to NUSS) in all cases specialized treatment methods, complex specialized medical care that did not guarantee positive results, the result should be considered as excellent. Due to the use of rating scales standardizing the evaluation of the results obtained, it was possible to compare the effectiveness of different therapeutic methods, the results of treatment of other authors. Comparison of the scores of the Luboszyce — Mattis — Schwarzberg and Karlstrom — Olerud scales proved their similarity, the absence of significant differences in the assessment, and in many respects (angles of displacement, shortening, etc.) complete coincidence. This indicates the possibility of comparing the results of treatment assessed by different scales.
