On the possibility of increasing the efficiency of rehabilitation of patients with limb fractures (individual rehabilitation program)

Background. The ultimate goal of treatment of victims with fractures of any localization is restoration of function and social integration. Proceeding from this, the task of the traumatologist is to restore anatomic and functional condition of the traumatized segment in the shortest terms. The chosen method of treatment influences the course of traumatic disease and, as a result, the outcome of the disease. Regardless of the applied method, the problem of early activation and functionality of treatment remains relevant. To this end, a study has been carried on the possibility of increasing the effectiveness of patient’s activity and medical gymnastics in order to reduce the time of social integration. Materials and methods. In the study, we proceeded from the basic principles of fracture treatment: emergency surgery, adequate anesthesia, anatomical reposition of fractures, fracture stabilization, treatment functionality. Treatment functionality was achieved by applying three groups of measures: restoration of physiological functions of the limb, restoration of household skills, social adaptation of the patient. In order to achieve the goal, the program of individual rehabilitation was used, taking into account the peculiarities of fracture, the method of treatment used, physical, age, professional and personal characteristics of the patient. The feature of the program was active involvement of the patient in the treatment process by means of training, explanation of goals and tasks at different stages of treatment. Examination of 68 patients with shin and forearm injuries was conducted. The evaluation of the results was carried out through the study of clinical indicators, restoration of vital functions and social integration of patients. Results. A good result has been achieved in 26 patients, satisfactory — in 31. The analysis of possible causes in the absence of a good result is carried out, the ways of their elimination are planned. Conclusions. When analy-zing the results of the study, it was confirmed that it is possible to decrease the duration of fracture treatment by reducing the rehabilitation period and improving the social integration of patients. At the same time, the influence of psychological and social factors of personal nature on treatment outcome in patients with fractures was revealed.
