Posttraumatic Osteopenia in Long Bone Fractures
The study was conducted on 20 adult female Vistar line rats aged 6 months. All animals under ether anesthesia by inhalation underwent transverse fracture of the femoral shaft and intramedullary osteosynthesis with thin rods. In order to study the reaction of a skeleton on a fracture on the 10th and 30th day after the osteotomy, two-photon X-ray densitometry was performed under ether anesthesia. The study found that in the fracture of the femoral shaft there has been observed systemic reaction of a skeleton, resulting in a loss of bone mass in some of its sections, the intensity of which depends on the stage of reparative osteogenesis. On the 10th day after the osteotomy on the background of the active regeneration we observed intensive bone loss in the bones of the fore limbs, pelvis and ribs, which decreased to the 30th day after the osteotomy, ie the end of the callus formation. In the second phase of formation of the regenerate (10–30th day) there was active bone loss in the spine following the stabilization of bone mineral density in other skeletal sites.
