The work shows the role of corrective osteotomy of the first metatarsal in the treatment of hallux valgus. The study included 108 patients. 74 of them (109 feet) underwent the standard corrective osteotomy of the first metatarsal bone, and 34 patients (58 feet) — corrective osteotomy by the improved technique. The results were evaluated by clinical and radiological data, scale of American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), the severity of pain syndrome — by visual analog scale (VAS). Comparison of outcomes in patient from control and main groups demonstrated significant improvement of foot function in patients of the main group (from 52.4 to 90.9 by AOFAS scale) compared with patients in the control group (from 54 to 74.3 points by AOFAS scale). Subjective assessment of pain severity before and after surgery according to VAS in patients from main group was 5.3 and 0.7, respectively, in control group patients it was worse — 5.6 and 2.3.
