Skeletal Trauma in the Structure of Polytrauma

Abstract


The analysis of skeletal injuries proportion in the structure of polytrauma in the age aspect among victims, who were treated in the Ternopil university hospital for the period of 2008–2012, has been carried out. It has been found that concomitant skeletal injuries were present in the vast majority of patients — 72.1 %. And those of working age were 77.6 % — 114 out of 147 patients with multiple organ injuries and skeletal trauma, predominantly males. Also there has been carried out the rank analysis of severity of patients’ condition depending on the volume of blood loss (Allgöwer index) in age and sex aspects. It has been found that, regardless of age group and gender, in most victims in the sample under study (93.6 % of 204 patients with polytrauma), at admission shock index was ≤ 0.8 that indicates the amount of blood loss of up to 10 % of blood vo­lume. However, it is worth noting that in men with polytrauma it was detected more severe hypovolemic shock, also in men incidence of polytrauma was higher than in women. The proportion of the affected men whose Allgöwer index ≥ 1.5, amounted to 5.9 % (3rd ranking place), and among women there were no such patients fixed.
