State of Energy Metabolism in Acute and Early Periods of Traumatic Disease in Patients with Polytrauma

Abstract


The article deals with the results of a study of metabolic costs and nitrogen losses in 103 victims with polytrauma. Energy metabolism that in normal conditions is provided mainly due to fats and carbohydrates in polytrauma increases significantly (+66.2 ± 7.1 %) and is largely provided by proteins. Intensive use of the protein not for plastic purposes but for energy needs, could adversely affect transport function of blood, reparative processes, in particular the consolidation of fractures.
