«Insufficiency fractures» of the pelvic ring

Abstract


The article presents literature data regarding terminology, causative agents, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of stress fractures. Stress fractures are divided into two groups — fatigue fractures and fractures caused by insufficiency of bone tissue — «insufficiency fractures». Fatigue fractures are defined as a result of prolonged exposure to repetitive excessive loads on the bone in apparently healthy and physically active people. General pathophysiology of «insufficiency fractures» consists in the discrepancy between the strength of the bone and the magnitude of the load on it — from low energy to the physiological one (daily load caused by the weight of own body). There are presented clinical observations of «insufficiency fractures» of the pelvic ring. The difficulties in the diagnosis of «insufficiency fractures» of the pelvic ring are determined by insufficient awareness of orthopedists regarding the possible causes of their development and clinical manifestations.
